I will be buying a new cheap laptop with either Windows 7 or 8.1 in the future. I won't buy a new PC with Windows 10 since I'm sure it will be more expensive. I'm just a student and will be using my scholarship grant to buy one.

Can I upgrade my system to Windows 10? I haven't read something about upgrading without reservation.

    Thanks!

Yes you don't need to reserve Win10.

Just upgrade manually with a Win10 DVD image, or use the upgrade process with Windows update until August 2016.

Thanks again! I hoped it will be, because this will be my first officially activated PC!

That GWX is only to mimic their telemetry, so it might look more plausible.
