Just as the title asks. I don't want to do a clean install, and I don't have any spare computers kicking around.
How big is your hard drive? Do you have 2 or more partitions? If you have 2 or more partitions, you could have dual boot with win7 sp1 and win8 7989...
Portable hard drive is so cheap now, you could get one and back up all your stuff, then make few partitions on your 500GB drive, and have both Win7 and Win8 in case something goes wrong...
Alright, so if I did make a partition, I'll have to repair boot for Windows 7, right? That's something I don't miss about dual booting Win XP and 7.
Assuming that you were saying that you would have to remove the repair boot for windows 7; no, you will not have to. Just open disk management, there right click on your c driver, you have an option called shrink volume. Using that, you can create a new partition, w/o have to format/delete exisiting partitions.
No. What I meant was, when you boot into a different OS the bootmgr usually needs to be repaired from a Windows install DVD. I don't want to have to pop in a DVD everytime I want to get back into 7.
OK. Not quite sure on this one, but i dont think you will face this problem. This mainly happens when you use XP or lower. However please confirm with some1 else.
You don't need to do that with win7 and win8. Install win7 first in the first partition, make this partition active, then install win 8 on the second partition(make inactive), make win7 the default OS...
man why don't you create a vhd and install windows there, you don't have to repartition your hard disk and you don't need to format anything and it will not messup your boot, I have been using it since the first windows 8 leak and it's great
Actually I've never done that before, and I tried yesterday but I actually don't know what to do LOL. I made the VHD in Disk Management, but don't know how to install the OS. haha.
So I was on the right track last night. Well, you need to go into Repair from the DVD, right? I can't do a repair because it's a different version of Windows or something. Therefore cannot access the prompt.
that's where the video comes in i followed the video completely not sure if made a mistake but i just wanted to write a entry in the boot loader and copied the files from the install.wim so i was able to see the windows 8 from the repair option and that how i access Command Prompt Wish someone could make a tutorial to create a vhd in windows 7 and show how to install windows 8 on it It would be much easier
Eh, yeah. I guess I have to download that WAIK thing, but he didn't really explain what it does. I don't have much time atm, so I can't really download it. Why can't things just be easy instead of download like, 10 things and burning stuff to install stuff on VHD? I don't have time for this nonsenseeee.
