I am more than certain that this question was asked a gazillion times, but I wanted to be sure of the answer. I acquired a Windows 8.1 Pro Retail key and I wonder if I can use it to convert my Windows 8.1 Pro VL (KMSPico-activated) into Windows 8.1 Pro Retail...
What is the best way to do it? MS Toolkit? Where are the options to do it in MS Toolkit? EDIT: OK, I added custom key in MS Toolkit, but how do I make 100% sure that this is now a Retail version?
Did you activate after entering key? Code: cscript slmgr.vbs /ato Check status with: Code: cscript slmgr.vbs /dlv
It says Retail Channel! I guess it worked. I don't have the option that other Retail versions have, which was an option to add or remove features in Control Panel. So, now that I have a retail Pro key, can I somehow legit-ly get Windows 8.1 Pro Retail WITH WMC? I also wonder if Pro Retail has some benefits over VL edition...
The only advantage of the Retail version actually is the WMC, which isn't available on the VL builds . To upgrade to ProfessionalWMC you'll need the Retail multiple-edition ISO . EDIT:============== Still needs a ProfessionalWMC key or KMS to activate, the latter offers a 45 days activation grace in opposite to Pro.
you can slmgr.vbs -upk then slmgr.vbs -ipk (your key) then slmgr.vbs /ato i did that and switched from VL to retail directly
although switching from VL to retail via key, I don't think getting WMC will be that easy if at all. The VL install doesn't have the "stuff" needed to get WMC, just switching the key from VL to retail, I cannot imagine it working to get WMC. Im curious about this myself now.
