Can you activate Win7 with Product Key sticker?

    I installed windows 7 and typed in the product key from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop. When windows finally loaded and I tried to activate it, it didn't work. Is there a way to activate Win7 using the product key from the sticker?

    I made a usb boot using windows 7 x64 from Official Windows 7 Repository. It is a Gateway NV53A.

    The sticker should tell you what version the ProductKey is for.. and it should work only if you installed that specific version

    The product key says "Home Prem OA" so I chose Home Premium during the install.

    Be carefull because I recently tried to install Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 and activate with serial from sticker and then I remember that serial is valid only if you install clean Windows 7 without service pack. You can add sp1 after activating Windows.

    i having a same problem. after format my laptop then i want to reinstall windows 7 home premium using product key at the sticker, it says not valid product key. how?
