I have tried several times to install FreeFIle Sync and each time I get an Error 1006 notification, telling me something has been externally altered, from a freshly dowloaded set-up file.

I have downloaded 10.5 twice from their homepage with the same result, and I have even downloaded Version 10.3 once from FileHippo.

    The problem reappears every time
,,, Is there any known problem with that software?

When I tried version 9.9... it works just fine. Should I simply not update it?

    Thanks

I installed version 10.5 from the site. Nothing wrong. Windows 10, English version.

I downloaded it three different times and all of them had the same Error, twice from their site, and once from FileHippo.
Version 9 from Filehippo worked just fine, Maybe version 10 only works on Win 10? Is that possible?

Possible: Because of a different OS Kernel File which may don't supports the older OS Kernel Versions for the latest build.

I would suggest contacting the Software/App Developer for a possible solution.

Fine, but it's still a good idea to contact the developer for further assistance. Doing so, I've got solution for many problems along my digital life ;)
