My pc is a part of a domain and when trying to upgrade it does not give me the option to keep apps & settings, either keep personal files or nothing. Have tried all sorts of Win8.1 Ent ISO's, last one I tried was the en_windows_8.1_enterprise_with_update_x64_dvd_6054382, but same problem :(

I have run sfc /scannow, but no problems was detected.

    Currently installed windows version:

    Microsoft Windows 8 Enterprise
    6.2.9200 Build 9200
    x64-based PC
    Locale United States
Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.2.9200.16384"

Have tried running this upgrade from the iso mounted within Win8.0 and booted it, but after selecting the upgrade option it just gives me: "The computer started using the Windows Installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally..."

I'm out of solutions :g: - please help ?

You've mentioned that you mount the image file from within windows. Why not try using a external media such as a disc or USB drive and see what happens.
Know it shouldn't make much difference but its worth a try.

The image might be the problem so use this version instead
    en_windows_8_1_enterprise_x64_dvd_2971902.iso

Hi Dre022392, I have also booted the pc with all the different iso's not giving me the option to keep settings & apps.

I'm now going to download the iso you mentioned and see what it
    does - thank you :)

Ok just tried with en_windows_8_1_enterprise_x64_dvd_2971902.iso and it did the same both from booted usb & mounted iso.

Even tried with a different usb stick to eliminate faulty usb drive - gives the same when booted from stick:

"The computer started using the Windows Installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally..."

It must be something to do with the installed Win 8.0 because no iso wants to upgrade it.

Isn't there a way to force upgrade to 8.1 keeping apps & settings ?

    @urie
Nice find :), almost sure it was the en_windows_8_1_enterprise_x64_dvd_2971902.iso that i had used the last time.
Guess i'll have to update my repository

Send you a PM, let us know if the result was successful
It would be helpful if you remember the name of the image that you had install the windows 8 enterprise edition from.
As it dependant on this, you will need the same edition Windows 8.1 ISO for as well to update and keep the files.
The default ISO language also makes a difference

You can also go to to the registry editor
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Nls\Language
and inform us of the Default and InstallLanguage number

Still downloading the iso - slow download, but at least I'm getting it.
