Like the title says, after i put my laptop to sleep or hibernate i cant get it back on normally, the screen just stays blank and i have to restart it to get it back on. This has been like this for a while and any help would be greatly appreciated.
maybe you take too much drugs.....ah oops you talk about computer ? try reinstalling windows and if it doesn't fix then buy new computer.
Ah i see, thanks for all that information. Fist of all i see i do have sp2 installed and everything up to date (all from windows updates, unless there's other things i need to manually get?). Secondly i checked up and saw some people started having this problem when they got sp2, so that's odd i guess, i don't remember when i started having this problem, it's been a while. And finally is it easy switching over to windows 7? thanks again for your help
OK i tried the Fix it and it didn't help. my laptop is a Toshiba satellite A135-s4527 vista home premium 32 bit. So what would be my next step to fixing this issue without installing windows 7
I just checked up Toshiba's site for updates and i see some newer ACPI Flash BIOS versions. Should i download those? because i know BIOS is a tricky thing sometimes that can cause problems so i don't know. Does windows updates, update everything needed or do you still have to check the manufacturer for other updates, in other words does windows updates include manufacturer updates also, just another thing i was wondering. thanks.
Windows updates only contains Microsoft updates, it does at times show device drivers, but better to just search for device drivers yourself they're usually newer. Your BIOS updates are interesting, some hibernation stuff there, might be worth a shot to update it. Problem is that most hibernation issues are driver related. Might just be that your Windows has been on there a bit and just needs a wipe out, fresh up to date version might not have the issue.
Well i updated the BIOS and it didn't help, the problem remains so i don't know what else to do. What did you mean exactly by windows needs a wipe out. thanks.
A format and reinstall, maybe you have some third party stuff that's messing with Windows sleep, maybe a driver ? If you did the Bios update and you have fully updated drivers and windows updates then that's the only thing I can think of doing.
Sorry what do you mean by a format and reinstall and how would i go about doing that. And if this helps just a little more information- when i hit sleep the blue power light turns orange and when i try to wakeit it does turn back blue but the screen doesnt turn on.
I honestly would like to do neither and find a solution to the problem. Since i cant i guess I'll update to windows 7, though i ran windows 7 update advisory which painfully doesn't work and just loads forever (an issue which i see lots of people have). So any ideas and on how to install windows 7 properly, so theres no mistakes
Which thing that i stated makes you think that my system has other issues? And yes i have full scanned with malwarebyte and spybot plus i have kaspersky 2011 installed and up to date and none of these have found anything. Also i don't think my windows update are being blocked as i have service pack 2 and everything seems up to date. Thanks for the response though and any further solutions or information is appreciated.
So you have Kaspersky one of the worst programs ever. Have you tried removing it to see if it fixes the sleep issue, it has been known to cause issues in that area as well as loads more.
I have encountered this problem as well. My suggestion is to disable hibernation and only use the sleep function. Open command prompt with admin privileges. Use powercfg –h off to disable and powercfg –h on to re-enable.A reboot will be needed.
