Wouldn't it be easier to ask this at the support site of the used tool, they should know how it works?
If that behavior wasn't present before using the Tool and wasn't corrected with the disable, it's clearly an issue for their support.
Isn't there any regfix, batch script etc. to fix it? Does Windows have somewhere a setting to disable (and enable) searching/indexing start menu? I really don't want to reinstall system, and check every OOSU setting one at the time, and check which one breaks start search.
As suggested in post #2 and #3, contact the developer of Shutup10, they're responsible for errors in their apps, and also should be known best how to solve! Any software, which alters an OS and/or System and it's settings, should be classified as dangerous and taken with a lot of care, better to keep hands off of it!
As per preceding post. But doesn't ShutUp10 create a registry back up/restore point before it makes changes? Usually such tools do, so check your restore points. But if this one doesn't take such precautions, next time take them yourself. Or use another tool that does. Best of all, don't use any of them.
It does make a restore point. Although, I know a lot of folks who often skip that step in hopes to get the job done faster. It's their own fault if they do.
Agreed. Some folks also disable restore points to save space. In real life, people pay for insurance. In computing, they often get it for nothing and still don't use it. As I always say, restore points aren't needed, till they are needed.
Must commit, Restore Ability gets disabled in first steps after a fresh install. If a system has a (more serious) problem, the Restore Points always failed for me. Only proper and reliable way is creating Image Backups on a regular base.
I've been using shutup 10 since windows 10 went RTM and it's never caused a problem with search, or anything else. This is on windows 10 Pro on 3 or 4 different machines. What version of windows 10 are you running?
