    Did you disable UAC?
Choosing to do that can cause weirdness to occur.

I always disable UAC, and I have never seen any "weirdness" as a result. YMMV

Are you still sure there are any files at all?
What does this disk do on another computer? Or what do you see when you start your computer from a Linux live drive/USB, for example? I ask it because I have seen similar situation, all files were on drive, but were not movable and at all usable if pc was run Windows, but everything was possible save to other place if to use Linux and after that was needed fix and reformat drive and everything worked again and this drive works till now.
