And WHY would you bother? It is supposed to be your NAS box, not a workstation!

Could you please explain why do you bother to use Office in WHS?

I really would like to know the reason for it (because it makes no sense to me)

Just like to test meny diffrent programs in WHS 2011 and see if i get it to run whit no problems.

As you say: (because it makes no sense to me), that is your problem, i use my whs server as i like, and the same are you doing whit your box, so dont bother to com whit commetn likes that in the post here, if you dont have enny usefull things to com whit.

How the hell is having Office installed on a headless server ever going to be 'useful'

Hi, I agree with the others in regard to installing Office on a server OS, but what I used to do when having Office installation issue was delete the Office keys in the registry before-hand, worked every time in my case. Reboot after deleting the keys and try the installation again. Worked with XP, can't remember if tested with other OS's.

    Tested:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office

    Untested:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office
