Having a interesting problem. I can't seem to act*vate the any of the Win7 loaders on Dell PCs although yesterday the same method worked fine on a Fujistu laptop and a gigabyte PC.

    The steps I followed was
    - Fresh Install
    - No internet access
    - Used the install_w7ldr.exe package.
    - Could see the software mount the System Reserverd Drive (100mb)
    - Shutdown the PC
    - Still says 30 days left.
    - Then tried the wow7.0.1a with still no luck.

Any advice would be greatly apprecatited. I am also having this issues with another Dell PC but different model.

OS Version: Windows 7 RTM Ultimate x64 ENG pre MSDN with correct MD5 and SHA1
    Dell PC: Optiplex GX520

    ---------------------------
    7Loader not installed!
    ---------------------------
    OK

Well as you know Dell's are a pain in the rear to get activated. You could try requesting a BIOS mod done, in the proper thread of course.

Man I am glad my main PCs are home built then :)

I was hoping to avoid the whole firmware situation because with my "TOUCH OF DEATH" I would most likley destory the bios ;) hehehe

Thanks for the input though. Appreciate it

    Hi,

After spending this week-end on the problem, I have successfully managed to activate Windows 7 Ultimate MSDN final on Dell Optiplex GX520 and GX620 PCs.

It may also work on Optiplex GX270 (or GX280 ?) and older models, I don't know -- because most of them have died of bad capacitors on their motherboard here !

Anyway, the reason why none of the GRUB4DOS based bootloaders posted here are working (I've tried 7loader 1.5/WoW7 by Hazar/Orbit30, Windows 7 loader 1.5.2 by Daz, etc.) is that they are based on later versions of VistaLoader.

The only version of VistaLoader which worked (to activate Vista) on these computers is VistaLoader 2.0.
None of the later versions of VistaLoader, later than 2.0, worked on these Dell computers -- and I think some HP computers also ran into problems with them too.

So after a few hours of playing around with R/W Everywhere and WinHex, I managed to hack VistaLoader 2.0 to upgrade it to SLIC 2.1, and this software mod hacktivated Windows 7 on my Dell Optiplex GX520 today.

If you are interested by the files and details, I can probably make them available to you, let me know.

PS: to anyone looking for a hardware BIOS modification : these computers are over 3 years old, and they pre-date Vista, as it can be verified on the Dell website, "Download Drivers" section - no Vista section is provided.
I've found this to be a reliable indicator : when Dell provides Vista drivers for downloading, the computers are Vista supported and usually have a SLIC 2.0 table in their BIOS.
Dell Optiplex GX520 and GX620 (and older models such as GX270 and GX280) have no Vista drivers and no SLIC table in their ACPI BIOS, so given the current state of hardware BIOS modding technology, it won't be possible to hack their BIOS to add a SLIC 2.1 (or even 2.0) table to hardware license Windows 7 or Vista.
(I've found a few people requesting such hardware BIOS mods on the Dell thread...)

Recent models such as Dell Optiplex 745 or 755 were shipped by Dell with Vista supported and pre-installed, so these BIOSes have drivers on the Dell website and a SLIC 2.0 table in their BIOS.

I will send you a PM in case you do not read this. I too have gone back to the support site and done research as to see if I could just use a BIOS from another Dimension model that's compatible that might have the SLIC table in the ACPI but no go. I have a Dimension 9100 that I've been trying to activate for the last week and I too have tried every loader + the manual way and no go.

What's funny is that you mention the older loader because that's quite possibly the one that put Vista on my Dimension 9100 in the past without a single problem. Quite interesting that the loaders of today are building off of an original older technology. Could explain all these Dell problems. I would love it if you sent me these files or put them up somewhere for download.

If this don't work guess I'll wait until October 22nd to spend hours using a keygen for Ultimate until a random key activates.

I have the exact same model (GX520).

I would love to know how to activate. I've tried all the other loaders without success.

    thanks!

CHEW is not always a good alternative... It works for the time being, but there is no guarantee that it will continue to work in the future. CHEW modifies your windows 7 install and there is no way to undo the damage it does to your system (without a lot of hassle). You have to reinstall windows to get rid of CHEW. It is false activation...you can hack windows to make it say "Windows 8" for crying out loud...how hard is it to hack and make it say "activated" when it is not...? Not very hard apparently.
CHEW is an alternative of last resort. If you can get windows activated NO other way then go for it...but expect to have to reinstall windows at some point, and backup your data as you will most likely not know when that "some point" will be.
