Hi all, Out of the nothing after launching windows update to upgrade to the newest fast ring build the computer started filling up my whole 120 GB ssd space, i have 800 MB left. Nice thing is my friend, is having the same problem with his 120GB ssd while he was preparing to upgrade to the new fast ring build. It's dutch but it means "System Files" Any one else? Update #1 Seems like 10162 c:\windows\logs folder is the problem. Best Regards,
Did you try to run disk cleanup (schijfopruiming) as administrator and tick 'Previous Windows Versions'? This might have to do with it, because Windows stores old versions in case you want to undo an upgrade installation in case something went wrong.
Yes i did, it only frees 12 GB... , as you can see in the second screenshot those 82 gb is for the "Active systemfiles" seems a bit large.
I have the same problem, my Windows folder is huge in this build. Taking up a lot of space on my SSD. The Logs folder seems to be the problem.
It could be a bug. Perhaps trying to download the esd file over and over? What does your c:\windows\softwaredistribution\download folder look like?
Just 220 MB. So it's something inside this folder. Update Confirmed c:\windows\logs folder thanks iflax!
From Windows10 subreddit a user called Cr0w1ey I tracked the source down as the 'DoSvc' service, display name is 'Delivery Optimization' with a description of 'Performs content delivery optimization tasks'. Setting it to disabled and rebooting has given my SSD a well-earned break as I couldn't get the damn thing to stop. I've ended up with 135k files, totalling 33.7GB. Oddly enough, the all appear to contain the same thing; a header and footer of ÿ's and the following text repeated multiple times: 'pdoverlapwait.cpp PDOverlapWait::run:162: Not quite sure how I got here. GetLastError() = 87' I'm running 10158 and can no longer go to 10159 now that 10162 is available. I was unable to upgrade with DoSvc disabled until I turned off the 'Updates from more than one place' option under advanced, confirming my suspicion that this service relates to peer-to-peer delivery of updates. In short; Set 'Delivery Optimisation' service to disabled and reboot Set 'Updates from more than one place' to disabled and attempt to download 10162 as this may resolve the issue. I'll try to update once 10162 is installed. I had the same issue, i just deleted the dosvc folder in c:\windows\logs , and after 15-20mins no new folder, but i did set 'Updates from more than one place' to disabled
On some machines this bug occurs on some others it doesn't Microsoft is aware of the issue and working to resolve it for now please delete c:\windows\logs\dosvc
Good find, adding that service to my list. Also you can use TreeSize to get an overivew of folder sizes to easier locate the culprit (but you have to know the default standard sizes of other windows folders which may take time but they shouldn't just grow except from install repo etc) And some setups are not really microsofts blame, I've seen patches for various games such as Crysis and Call Of Duty 5 to be saving each patch setup into the windows installer folders and repository (the ones with CLSID so it takes painstaking to figure out which is which) and in there were all version of the 7 patches for COD5 like each patch was above 100MB with the last 3 patches 500 mb, 700mb and 1.2 GB respectively, and a crysis patch of 250MB among other things, I think this is incredibly negligent and MS should be sending alarm bells to the setupmakers to get to developer's heads to not do this BS. Also check Windows\Temp if there is one or new location, i have seen sleep function making this folder over 20Gigs just half a year ago I cleaned out 60GB on another PC for someone else.
I have issue with 10158 , 10159 ,10162.. hmm. how many day before rtm ? I stop testing preview.. back to w8.1.
