    Toshiba L300D Vista 32 bit SP2

A friend recently copied a large film across two blank, same make, brand new CD-R discs.

Disc 2 plays perfectly (as do many other CD's and DVD's).

Disc 1 clicks a few times, starts to spin, clicks a few times and then sits dormant. No message, no self ejection. If I manually eject and retry the exact same happens, the ticks are the same type and same pattern.
    The disc is not recognised.

However, when I try both discs in another machine, they BOTH play fine.

If I try Disc 1 back in the Tosh it still does the same same ticking etc.

Both machines are using VLC as default player.
    Machine 2 is running XP.

I have subesequntly copied the files to a usb stick and all is well but what is the fault with the Toshiba please anyone?

I think one of the discs was damaged due to high burning speed. :)

Hi, thanks for looking at this for me.

Is it poissible that a 'damaged' disc might be read in one machine but not in another, possibly because the disc reader is more sensitive to partial faults?

    Thanks again.

Hi, yes that could be possible.

I would try to burn the DVD again with lower burning speed.
