I replaced my Dell Inspiron 1501 motherboard with Latitude 131L motherboard (they are same). How to modify the bios so that it shows Inspiron 1501 instead of Latitude 131L during booting? I have searched this site for an answer but got no luck. Anyone can help me? Thanks a lot.

Are you sure they're identical? If the chipset is different at all, you're setting yourself up to brick the computer... be VERY careful.

    Thanks for the response.

Instead of re-flashing the bios, is there a way just to modify the model name in bios and then save it? I saw somewhere a while ago that there was a dell tool can modify the service tag, so I guess the model in bios can be modified, too.

my vaio vgn-fj150 DMI got screwed up. the machine name and serial number showed up on the bios as "reserved". Because of that I can't update or restore any drivers/BIOS.
Does anyone know how to change/modify or tool I can use to change the DMI on my vaio laptop? I like to upgrade the bios and drivers on this laptop. Thanks
