As the title says... After a successful upgrade (from win8.1 , and YES the win10 were activated), I tried to make a clean install via the mediacreationtool on a NEW HDD (as my current boot HDD has issues), the result? >>> win10 can't be activated and the previews HDD can't boot win10 anymore, after chating with a tech support from MS , the only thing they suggested : reinstall the 8.1 the upgrade AGAIN to win10
M$ and their upgrade. I am pissed off...

not to mention that the activation suggests to visit the windows store in order to get the win10 key, guess that ? the only option is to BUY the win10..

    nothing is perfect.
there will always a percentage of systems that won´t do it without issues.

    that´s life.

i know it´s no big help for the affected.
i have updated 3 of my system so far and then i did a fresh installation... it worked fine.

I just did an upgrade from Windows 8.1 Pro (Legit) to Windows 10 Pro using the official ISO USB creator.

I get an activation error too!

lots of people are getting activation errors, the servers are apparently getting clobbered..eventually it should take but don't do a clean install until it does.

Install Windows 8.1, activate it, upgrade to Windows 10 and Reset your system to have an activated clean installation.

You can not do that on NEW HDD! It supposed to be on the same hardware that was used to upgrade the prev. windows.

Has it occurred to you that it is 7/29 and the activation servers are getting hammered. They are overloaded. Waiting will no doubt sort it out.

No, just type reset into cortana and it will bring you right to it. Settings\update and security\recovery

pls close the thread, I managed to make a new clean installation on the new HDD that was activated immediately! The solution was to perform the new installation using a recovery drive (USB) made from the already installed (and activated) windows 10.
