We just bought two new computers at work that run XP (have to for production control software) that came with Windows 7 Updates. I wanted to install this on a test machine to play with it. However once I do a clean install I cannot activate. I have tried all of the activation methods including: Registry Hack Double Installation Even Call Microsoft for automated Activation All of these failed, any thoughts or suggestions? Is it not possible to activate a OEM upgrade disc?
As far as I know, Dell upgrade disks do not upgrade the bios to SLIC 2.1. It will install the correct certificate and OEM SLP key for activation but all this will work only if you have SLIC 2.1 in your bios. Look in the biosmods thread for modded bios and instructions.
BC it is a DELL Upgrade disc do I need to find/use a dell.xrm-ms CERT? I have looked but cannot find one to use.
bigzaj, for oem activation, you need SLIC 2.1, matching cert and slp key. So first check what brand SLC 2.1 you have in your bios with the SLIC dump toolkit (download from this forum). E.g. if you have dell slic 2.1 the you need a dell cert, if HP slic then HP cert and so on. Install the cert (again download the correct cert from this forum)- run cmd as administrator, then type the following slmgr -ilc <path to cert> Wait till it gives you the successfully installed message. Check activation status in Control panel>System-scroll to bottom. report back.
Correct me if I'm wrong - but seems he's got COA upgrade disc... which doesn't need SLIC2.1?? EDIT: Meant OEM:NONSLP ....
Did your upgrade dvd come with a COA and key? If yes, you can simply clean install using the key, no need to mod the bios etc. (if you have already modded bios, not a problem).
