Well, since i installed Windows 8 Pro on my desktop, it already ate 26,8GB of disk space. I have no extra apps installed (posting this from Internet Explorer 10). How can i free some of that space?
use uncleaner from josh cell and run windows 8 harddisk cleanmgr.exe (also clean windows installation files but you need admin rights) Note: cleanmgr takes for ever to finish You will save many GB's
Yeah i know, whenever i run the cleanmgr utility, it gets stuck on Windows Update temporary files, so i need to stop the win update service and delete everything in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.
Disable Hibernation via a command (I was surprised to find a 2GB hibernation file on my HTPC, even when I don't use the feature). Can also adjust your page file. I might also suggest CCleaner + CCEnhancer
In Windows 8, the hiberfil.sys is required for hybrid shutdown, AFAIK. Disabling Hibernation disables hybrid shutdown also.
First run cleanmgr. It can help you clean up windows update downloads, and a few temp files. Next run admin prompt command: "powercfg -h off" that will disable hybernation and free up 2gigs. Be warned that it will also disable FastBoot, the win8 hybernation shutdown. Lastly you can clean up the winsxs folder by running the admin command prompt command: Code: dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup If you have installed a decent amount of updates, that winsxs folder will get quite full over time.
Small addendum: After having completed the cleanmgr, reboot. Only then the updates will be cleaned up.
Windows' own Disk Cleanup: Control Panel/System and Security/Administrative Tools/Free Up Disk Space Remember to include "Clean up system files"
win8 x64 has a footprint of about 9G, For me now is about 29G with a number of softwares including office 2013.......do you still have windows.old?
