    hi to all,

I need some info or help. I am trying to modify Compal FL90 bios version 1.18 to allow LCD+VGA+BOTH methods in bios. As this is phoenix bios I opened it in PBE and digging through strings section I found string "[LCD Only]". Digging more I found description of string "LCD Only" with further options like [Auto-Selected],[Both]. So my question is, If I just rename string LCD-Only to Auto-Selected, and flash it, would it make difference in current output setup.

Also, in Bios "Setup" there is no such category or field which define monitor output. If I wan't that fields incorpoorated inside bios Setup screen I would need some bit knowladge using Hex notiation, am I right?

    Any info/help is wellcomed
    regards

    Did you try Windows+P ?
(which stands for projector) I never saw a bios trigger for display output as it depends on the driver only
but maybe I'm just wrong ;)

Combination win+p doens't work. On my keyboard I have Fn+F3 which triggers between outputs but this just work only when drivers for GPU are loaded as you said. So there Is no posibility to use external display for POST msgs? Some laptops has this ability included in Bios so I was thinking maybe my FL90 can do that as VBIOS is stored inside motherboard bios.

why external VGA display depends on OS drivers? I doesn't make sense for me.

For my knowladge BIOS probes for all hardwares and pheripherals attached, if status is returned as valid then it continues to next stage. So in fist stage bios knows about vga port and GPU card. As this is laptop with VBIOS included inside mBIOS then basic GPU function is loaded in first stage. So I don't see why people are saying "it depends on drivers" rather its limitation in bios settings. As I sad before I dont have in my BIOS setup something defined as "Display output control" but I can tell for shure that settings in Fl90 1.18 is by default "LCD-only".

I saw in changelogs that they chaged Power On Display: [Auto-Selected ] to LCD-only but I can't find that particular bios as that versions is alpha.

So i aks anyone with more knowladge, please light me up.
