Thanks for the seperate thread! Hope to nail this one. I haven't yet recieved my IFL90 yet. They've been in a couple of RMAs. Hopefully this one (new unit) works. Anyone with IFL90s confirm the latest fron yen works? PS: Do we have to flash twice? It looks like it per your instruction: 1. flash: PHLASH16 BIOS.WPH /X /MODE=3 /BBL 2. flash: PHLASH16 BIOS.WPH /X /MODE=3 /BBL /PF=SLP2 And why is it so difficult to make this particular BIOS work? Someone with BIOS modding experience shed some light on this subject? Thanks for all the hard work and dedication!
No, each flash is a separate attempt to get a working SLIC. So I'll need the acpi info after the first flash and you should try to activate after it as well. There are different facts why this one is difficult. First: The standard dynamic technique we used to modifiy caused a black screen! Why? It's sensible. Solution : To flash the bootblock as well... Second: The bios uses an additional parameter /PF=SLP2. This is not fully understood yet. It matters if this command was used before or NOT!! Third: The OEM ID and the OEM table ID is somehow locked like some Compaq or HP bioses. How does it come? There are more attempts to do!!! Yen
Thanks for the run down. I didn't realize they can lock down the OEM_ID and table. Well, the harder it is, the sweeter the reward..
Yes, I've tried the tool. It seems it inserts the SLIC like we do. But IMO it didn't brick your laptop because you've made a mistake, but cause you've probably flashed it without the /BBL command. If you have modified the bios, you have to use this command otherwise it bricks. This is basely, cause noone of us didn't know that!!! The question is: Does it allow to use other OEM id's than compal? IMO NOT! Anyway I'll post that mod as well..... stay tuned....somebody should give it a try as well....... Yen
Grrr, can't find that drive anywhere. I am going to give up soon and just buy another drive. They used to be cheap, now since they are used less, they are more expensive.
Found that floppy-drive yet? I'd love to try it myself, but since my compal is very needed for school and I don't have a floppy drive I won't dare it.
No, I didn't. Instead, I just placed an order at NewEgg. I'm not so sure about trying this on a brand new laptop now, lol. Looks like everyone else on the board is scared because of all the previous failed trials!
HaXXa was the one who tried some of my mods. No one resulted to a working SLIC, one of them bricked the laptop! BUT he was always able to recover the bios so far. There was no need to RMA! China4Ever tried some as well. They caused to brick, too. The only matter is that the recovery procedure is a bit extensive. Just for your information Yen
I borrowed a USB floppy drive - going to try it tonight! BTW, since you said I only need to flash once, is this the command + syntax I will use? PHLASH16 BIOS.WPH /X /MODE=3 /BBL /PF=SLP2 I sure hope that Crysis disk work.
HI Yen, Sorry to butt in but have been trying to flash my acer tm4100 with the latest slic bios but i am getting the following error and i see you seem to be an expert on phoenix bioses, was wondering if you had any suggestions or know what the error means have recently flashed it with the previous bios 3a29 slic modded by Fzeven and flash worked fine. winphflash - bios is not flashable error code -144 --------------------------------------------------------- Last part of winphlash error log Flashing new BIOS stage Check if BIOS part numbers are the same Passed Ok Verifying BIOS checksum... Yep, I tried your C mod and it also didn't boot with it. Will try your "D" and E. I just want to thank you again for forging on.
D says checksum not equal to 0, so it didn't even flash (even after saying you want to force it to flash). E flashed, but did not post afterwards.
