I bought this unit as a refurb without a hard drive. I'm having some issues with the BIOS and would like to update it but am unsure which update I need. The product ID on the case indicates it's a Compaq Presario CQ56-219NR The BIOS version (F.06) indicates it's a CQ56-115DX The motherboard number (DAOAX2MB6E1) says it;s a CQ62 or HP G62 Windows system info identifies it as a HP Pavilion DVx (that could be models from G56 to G62) The problem is that the motherboard serial number is set to 1234567890 as is the product ID. The product configuration is at 00E0000000000000000000000. This prevents some of the Windows drivers to be loaded. (Compaq OEM Windows 7 Ultimate 64) I replaced the AMD v140 with a Turion P520 dual core and put in a 250 GiB Toshiba hard drive. Is there a way to enter the proper info into BIOS? I have been reading these forums for 5 days and tried some of the fixes to no avail. I have only succeeded in updating the BIOS to ver F.18 I'm a computer tech, but not a hacker. Any help would be appreciated. Some history: I bought a new CQ60 that failed 3 days after purchase. The partition table corrupted and HP/Compaq wanted me to buy a restore disc for $30 only 3 days into the warranty. They finally agreed to send me one if I would pay the shipping - which was set at $30 (hey just how stupid do they REALLY think we are?). I fixed it myself and used it for a year and 2 weeks when the motherboard fried.
Fixed. The HP DMI tool would exit with an error saying it could not run under this (DOS) environment. I used both the HP Notebook DMIFIT 2C10 Utility and the HP_V10B_DMI_Utility. I used the HPBQ138 to enter the info.
