    Hi,

before I begin I will admit that this problem is my fault and I have been a pillock..:eek:

yesterday I updated the bios on my Compaq mini 110 netbook to one downloaded from here. it is now obvious to me that this bios was not actually the correct one for my version of this netbook and it will now not boot.

it displays the following message on boot up
    104-Unsupported wireless network device detected.
System Halted. Remove device and restart.

I have tried all the bios recovery methods listed on this site (well, all that I have found) but nothing seems to work.

I have got the bios file for my laptop, renamed it to AMIBOOT.ROM and placed it on a floppy disk. connected a USB FFD to the netbook with this floppy in and powered the netbook up (nothing happened other than the same error displaying. I did the same again holding CTRL + HOME on power up and this time the caps lock light flashes but the device does not access the floppy disk.

does anyone have any other suggestions I can try?

    thanks in advance
    kX

    Hi,

Have tried to do the error message?
Open up your mini and find the wireless network device...try disconnecting the cable and power it up again.

    Hope this helps.

Try putting the AMIBOOT.ROM on a FAT(16) formatted SD card and do the Ctrl-Home power-up recovery method. It may take a while for the recovery screen to show up. After recovery is complete the computer will reboot again but will keep blinking and won't actually boot - even the power switch won't work, so I just pull the battery at that point. Then the computer will boot, complain about CMOS values and reboot properly.

    Hope that helps.

Hi and thanks for the response,

unfortunately I cannot do this as the system just keeps rebooting and trying to load again, the last message if flashes up very quickly is "CMOS: Checksum bad" and then reboots no matter what I press.

I have tried going back to another bios that i tried before which loads correctly but warns about an unsupported wifi card and system halts.

i guess I just need an un modified bios (in .ROM format) for this device (110c-1120SA) so I can put it all back as it was.

anyone know where I can get this, have googled my little socks off and come up with nothing

    cheers

thanks again for the pointer. however I have tried a few backed up bios's from other similar (but not the same) model number netbooks and they all give me errors of some sort.

    hopefully this is the one

    cheers

    Hi,

this one also seems to load fine but when I power the device on after flashiing it just goes into a constant reboot cycle after displaying "CMOS: Checksum bad" very quickly in the post.

anyone have any clues what this might be? is it possible that there is some part of the CMOS not getting flashed during the recovery process? if this may be the case any ideas how to force it?

    cheers

found this and am going to give the further options a try now and will report back when tried
    Code:
Some alternative keys that can be used to force BIOS update (only the System Block will be updated so it's quite safe):
CTRL+Home= restore missing code into system block and clear CMOS when programming went ok.
CTRL+Page Up= restore missing code into system block and clear CMOS or DMI when programming went ok.
CTRL+Page Down= restore missing code into system block and do not clear CMOS and DMI area when programming went ok
Btw: the alternative keys work only with AMIBIOS 7 or higher (so for example an AMI 6.26 BIOS can be only recovered by using CTRL+Home keys).
