Tried installed K Lite Mega Codec pack and would give this error. Tried running as administrator and applying compatibility mode with same results. Code: --------------------------- Setup --------------------------- The file "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe" has an incorrect version (6.4.9841.0). Please replace the file with a genuine copy. Setup will now abort. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
The only good codec packs these days are CCCP and Kawaii Codec Pack. K-Lite anything is so 10 years ago. The ghost of Kazaa won't die. Or you can use an mplayer/mpv-based player and avoid codec packs altogether.
I quite agree with you. From the notion that Windows Media Player requires codec park for a DVD playback is preposterous to say the least in this 21st century, when there are free alternative like VLC. The reason why I like Windows Media Player is to prevent having multiple players included in a system when about three others are possibly already there, like the Metro Video player, The WM Player and the WM Centre (as a added feature for Windows 8 to 10 Pro).
ffdshow, if you have an Intel CPU get the ffdshow based Quicksync decoder. Recommended to use with MPC-BE. Or use LAV Filters instead of ffdshow. Both use ffmpeg which is a library that supports most video formats including the newest H.265/HEVC
I'm an MPC-HC user, have tried many but always return to it. A nice trick that VLC has up it's sleeve is the ability to play DVD ISO's (.iso). PotPlayer seems to be very highly thought of by some video enthusiasts, highly configurable apparently akin to KMPlayer (KMPayer - if you can get the English interface working).
You should not use "codec packs" anyway, they are bunch of trash. Just use VLC or similar player, it has all you need to play videos. I'm only installing DivX and QuickTime codecs on my PCs.
