My computer froze, ok fine, it happens, quite often on 8.1, never on 8. I restarted. Now my %appdata% folder is inaccessible, can't be detected by windows. Apps that start on login no longer autostart. My start menu and all entries are gone. I tried system restore, didn't work. I can't use a windows ISO from online, because I am Dell OEM activated. Apps that needed access to %appdata% no longer work. I really need to find a solution to this problem that does not involve sending my computer to Dell for repair, mainly because I have 1.5 BTC and other crypto currencies, I seriously can't lose.
check event viewer and look for what is causing the problem. You can also run in Admin mode sfc /scannow that will be a good start to troubleshooting your problem. You can also check device manager for any clues, and make sure your graphic card is up to date and that your network card is ok too come back for more tips
there are no critical issues besides the restart after system hangs. device manager is normal, graphics card has no issue, network card has no issues. in fact, i'm using the affected computer to post here. i can't access safe mode, i cant do recovery, i cant refresh.
It must be simple file system corruption. Maybe recoverable, maybe not. Run "chkdsk c: /f /r" in the command prompt.
i cant, as i stated previously, OEM activated, can only use OEM media, which is not available to end-users.
i would lose activation if i did, also i don't have any media i can use, besides an SD card, and my bios doesnt support boot from SD
to repair your window, you wont lose activation for sure. But not having a media is another problem. Hold on let me get you an online repair cmd
all of my profiles documents and temp data are here, but not the appdata folder, there is only the one profile, which i am currently on.
pc settings doesnt work, so i cant refresh, or make a new user augh, i cant believe nothing is working. if i have to do a factory restore by sending my computer to dell, im going to love over $1000 dollars in BTC
