    Hey guys,

I'm planning an install of Win 7 on my dell xps m1530 tonight. Now I've seen a few topics that suggest that I wont be able to activate windows on this machine (dell) using any of the loaders, I will have to do a bios flash. Is this true, or is there a software loader that might work?

If I had to install, then create a disk image, could I use the installation unactivated for 120 days (with the rearm command) and then simply restore the disk image and rearm for another 120days? until I either get my hands on a loader that works, or a legal copy?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I'm doing this on my work computer so I cant have it deactivate in 30 days. So I'm just asking to make 100% sure I will be able to use it for quite some time before having to reinstall.

    Thanks all
    Craig

I would try Daz's loader. People have posted pretty good results using it to activate Dells. I used Daz's loader to activate 2 Dell laptops myself (1 was ~6 years old and the other was ~4 years old) and it worked perfectly. I used the default loader option on 1 and the "experimental" loader option on the second.
Just try the different soft mod options the loader has. If the default method does not work, try the "older loader" option, if that does not work, try the "experimental" loader option...1 of the options should work for you.

EDIT: Or you could just mod your BIOS...then you only need to install a SLP key and a certificate that matches the SLIC in your modded BIOS (only the certificate needs to match the SLIC brand. The key can be from any OEM vendor). ;)

    Thanks for the info guys.

do you have a link to a bios thread where they discussing the m1530 bios. I cant seem to find a solid discussion about it. All I can find are dribs and drabs of info.

Also, would the "rearm x3 restore image rearm x3 again" work?

I would just go with a BIOS mod. The Dell/Phoenix BIOS modding process seems to be pretty stable and well-tested...you should not have any problems going this route.
