    Dear experts,

is it technically possible to convert an existing (installed/running) Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard from Volume License (VL) to Retail? Does it make a difference whether the system has been already activated via KMS or not?

I understand that the system would have been installed with VL media which is different to retail media. While a conversion between media (ISO) is possible a (licensing) conversion of an installed/running system differs of course. As far as i remember such a licensing conversion was technically possible with Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 7 (as media was generic to all versions and licensing options) - but might have been limited by Microsoft in Windows Server 2012 R2.

Thank you very much for getting me up to speed.. :)
