My friend has a Dell 1545 with bios A14 and Vista on it. Dell offered him a Windows 7 upgrade a while back but he never did it. He wants 7 now. Is there a way to load it on there with a Dell Windows 7 OEM disc? I'm not sure if it's SLIC 2.1 or not. Also I'd need instruction on how to do that.
If not, then I also have a windows 7 Pro. OEM key from an old HP that is completely dead and always will be. Could I use the Dell OEM disc on the 1545 and then use that HP key as the serial? Would that just be easier? I'd like to know before I wipe out all his stuff if it'll work either way. Thanks for any help.

Ok so I ran AIDA64 and all it says is A14 as the BIOS version. No mention of SLIC anything.

Ok, thanks, in the Software Licensing Description table it has SLIC Version v2.1. Does that mean i should be able to just run the Win7 Pro OEM disc from a different Dell and it'll be activated?

Yeah, I just looked at 1545_A14.EXE downloaded from Dell site, it has v2.1 bios. Activation by oem:slp should be straightforward.

Thank you. Yes I installed the 1545_A14.EXE this morning, before it was A04, and I am using Dell OEM Win7 Pro with SP1. Excellent this should be a pleasant experience for a change. Thanks for all the help from both of you.
