guys i have a bit of confusion in my head because I'm looking for the one processor 478 that supports Windows 8, the model is the Pentium 4 2.8A 511 but there are three models in question .... which one is that supports "execute disable bit "? SL7D8 or SL7E2 or SL7PK ? thank you!
Looked at the processor specs and I don't think so: "Specifications Essentials Status Launched Processor Number 511 # of Cores 1 Clock Speed 2.8 GHz L2 Cache 1 MB Bus/Core Ratio 21 FSB Speed 533 MHz Instruction Set 64-bit Embedded Options Available Yes Lithography 90 nm Max TDP 84 W VID Voltage Range 1.25V-1.400V Recommended Customer Price N/A Package Specifications TCASE 67.7°C Processing Die Size 112 mm2 # of Processing Die Transistors 125 million Sockets Supported PLGA775, PPGA478 Low Halogen Options Available See MDDS Advanced Technologies Intel® Turbo Boost Technology No Intel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x) No Intel® 64 Yes Execute Disable Bit Yes" (had to copy/paste wouldn't let me post the link to intel's website) You have NX bit there but not VT-x. I think W8 refuses to install without any kind of Hardware Virtualization, all the 511s have that NX but not VT-x. Hope it helps Cheers and merry Christmas!
In September I had tested Windows 8 32bit on an Intel P4 3.2GHz Prescott and was working fine. That machine is still running by the son of a friend.
