ok so I copy over the $OEM$ folder like normal and then add the files to i386
    dpcdll.dl_
    oembios.bi_
    oembios.ca_
    oembios.da_
    oembios.si_
    pidgen.dll
    setupp.ini
    setupreg.hiv
    winnt.sif

and then i edit those to files to only include the information you gave me in the code boxes?

    911medic,

I recently used "OEMBIOS changer installer.exe" to change my installed XP Pro VLK system to a Dell OEM after flashing a modified BIOS that now contains:

    -SLIC: DELL_QA09.BIN 2.1
    -SLP: DELL

    That worked perfectly.

I then wanted to create a new installation CD that would install directly to Dell OEM, so I replaced the following files on my XP Pro VLK CD with ones from my newly converted XP Pro Dell OEM system (using MAKECAB to compress, as necessary, and editing SETUPP.INI to change 270 to OEM):

    dpcdll.dl_
    oembios.bi_
    oembios.ca_
    oembios.da_
    oembios.si_
    pidgen.dll
    setupp.ini
    winnt.sif

I did not add a $OEM$ folder as I don't want any branding and I did not change setupreg.hiv as the XP Pro VLK CD is an SP3 version and I didn't want to replace setupreg.hiv with an older one from a non-SP3 Dell OEM install CD. It appears to work perfectly (tested under VMware using your patched VMware BIOS). Were these two procedural differences appropriate and acceptable?

    Many thanks for your input.

Do not use these from the files you have.

    Code:
    DPCDLL.DL_
    Pidgen.dll
    setupreg.hiv
Only use the .sif I gave you, the oembios files (4), and the setupp.ini.

The others are not to be used..I dont think the $OEM$ is necessary..Why do you use it??

The one that came in the oembios pack is bogus for MCE. It works for Pro only.

If you want, I can zip up a drag and drop pack to activate your MCE with HP..:D:D

This is perfect. No reason to change the setupreg.hiv file..

    enjoy!!

edit: if you run a backup of the Dell system with oembios changer tool, it will grab all files necessary for CD. Move them to another folder, and cab the files you need cabbed.put to cd. Your .sif will have the serial, right??Just insert modified setupp.ini....done

Your suggestion is one of several different approaches I took before deciding I was on the right track. Using this method, OEMBIOS.reg is also created, but I don't believe it serves any purpose on an install CD, does it (it appears to be for reverting back to VLK from OEM if the restore option is executed)?

I already had a WINNT.SIF that I've been using from a floppy with my preferred configuration settings, so I simply changed its key and put it in I386.

With you're feedback, I'm now 99.99% sure I understand all the pieces involved and have a perfect OEM install CD made from a VLK install CD.

    I really appreciate your help.

Yep. The oembios.reg is only for the tool. Not for the cd.

Especially if it worked in VM..it will certainly work on your machine..

Thanks for the zip! I wanted to compare to what I had and it was the same.

This was my first attempt to make a updated no bloatware recovery DVD for my Pavilion.
