Hi Guys, I've found a legal way to put my program to the top over Windows 8 start screen. There is no system files patching. The ability to customize a start screen is very limited by Microsoft. I have made a power menu right now, not waiting for a Microsoft update in April. Start Screen Unlimited is now simple, but it may be useful for you. We want to add new features soon. And it will be better. I'd really love your feedback and ideas! Free version is available for download: startscreenunlimited dot com
Answer to the questions and suggestions: > Battery status ? > LAN / WLAN status ? Yes. We plan to make it. > Small design errors: > When I move "Start Screen Unlimited" to the bottom of the start screen, then the pull down menu (e.g. power menu) opens downwards - out of screen area; should open upwards. Sure. You are right. It will be fixed. > When I move "Start Screen Unlimited" to the bottom of the start menu then - after a reboot - it appears on top of start menu. I will check it. > After a reboot it took approx. 25 seconds before "Start Screen Unlimited" appears on start menu. It is required to start. Now I don't know the other way. > In power menu "Hibernate" appears - even if I have disabled hibernation (via powercfg -h off). Confirmed. > The date is shown multilingual (German for me); but the pull down menu is English. The date format gets from your regional settings. We're working with localization. Volunteers are appreciated. Your feedback is really appreciated! Thank you! Dmitry
I have no intention of denigrating this project. In fact, I admire the enthusiasm shown. But I a drawn to comment. I have all these functions. A couple by merely creating shortcuts (Search and the Control Panel), and the others with similar, and simple, procedure. I cannot really see the purpose of installing a third party program, adding clutter to the Modern gui, to accomplish the same thing?
hi; This is esp not because a number of user dislikes interface METRO that others do not like and that he finds enjoyable. It takes for all the taste and must be respected all over the world. wiki
Have a look at "Classic shell". There is included a file "StartMenuL10N.ini" which has translations for "Power off", "Reboot", "Sleep" and "Hibernate" in many languages (even Chinese, Arabic and Russian). Suggestions: Windows 8.1 "Spring Update" includes its own "Power Off" button on start screen. So "Start Screen Unlimited" should recognize an installed "Spring Update" and supress "Power Off" button of "Start Screen Unlimited". Otherwise you have two "Power Off" buttons. Instead of "Control panel" button (which is more for advanced users) I would prefer three other buttons: Start File Explorer Start default browser Start default eMail program On many notebooks you have these three buttons as hardware buttons. Why not transfer these hardware buttons for tablet user into "Start Screen Unlimited" ?
Sure. But we will translate all program when it will be ready. This update adds only Restart and Shutdown items in the submenu. Am I wrong? Thank you for your suggestions! I a really appreciate it. We are working on the framework that allows you to add any number of items. Each item will have own form, image, text and can be resized and moved. We will allow fully customize each item. But we will release new feature often, step by step. If anyone would like to join our beta testers team, please, PM me.
What do you think about new upcoming feature: Show Taskbar while you are on the Start Screen. Look at the screenshot.
This update adds the same "Power Off" button as "Start Screen Unlimited" next to the user Picture on start menu; with same submenu as "Start Screen Unlimited": "Power off", "Reboot", "Sleep" and "Hibernate".
you can press win+t to show taskbar on Startscreen but it certainly will not be permanent because it interferes with the little button to your left which leads to all apps
Sorry i was distracted by those bottom boo... er..i mean the all apps button disappears after a few sec anyway & re-appears on moving the mouse; so not much lost
