I have a CQ60-S420 laptop with Vista. The 32 bit Home Premium disk is here but I have not used it as I found this fine forum.

I tried Windows 7 x64 and was able to install and activate it just fine. I used Daz's loader. I can use the manual cert and key install as I am on SLIC 2.1 but I researched that after I had already used the loader.

Any how, I used to hibernate the laptop with Vista when the lid was closed. Since I installed and activated W7, when I open the lid and press the power button, the boot hangs with a blinking cursor. I have to press the power button again and that shuts off the laptop. Then I have to press the power button yet again which then resumes the PC normally.

This is happening in both my existing Vista and also in W7. So, my question is why is this happening? It only started after I installed Home Premium x64 in another partition.

I went through all the Hibernate posts on here but nothing matches my problem.

If you have SLIC 2.1 in BIOS you do not need Loader. Remove it and install the Cert and Key manually with slmgr commands that can be found in the Sticky, Official Repository.

Yes. I intend to do that. But with dual boot, I am not sure how to remove the loader. I intend to format and reinstall W7 Ultimate with no dual booting. But ran into this problem while testing. So, is this due to the loader? If yes, I have another laptop that doesn't have SLIC in the BIOS at all (Toshiba A105-S1013) on which I intend to use the loader. Will I run into the same problem on that machine?

Have you installed the latest motherboard drivers for your laptop? The drivers will control how standby and hibernate function. You may have to use the Vista drivers if there are no W7 drivers available. To install Vista drivers use Explorer to check properties on the .exe for driver. Open the compatibility folder and check Vista. Then run as administrator.

I haven't. But I figured I didn't need to. Besides, Vista does the same thing if I hibernate from Vista. So, this isn't just a W7 issue but rather what ever changed after I activatd W7 which is why I am wondering if its the loader and nothing should have changed apart from the boot loader for Vista.

So you are saying that before you installed the Loader your system would go into standby correctly in W7?

Have you checked your BIOS settings to ensure that you have S3 level standby turned on?
