Many times M$ wants a Call home to validate - they say they do not do, but as you can see they do... you did not call home so they say FAKE, I have seen this many times before with XP an other OS. if you are MAK or Retail and this happens.... go to control panel, click Activate, and usually M$ will Validate or a popup Get Genuine will show... use the get genune popup and M$ will validate that way. (always make a good Token Restore-backup, use what ever program you like Best... I use ATM 2.8 (have 3x ) Windows 8 KMS - Windows 8 MAK-Retail Windows 8ProWMC Retail Retail. PS: M$ also like verymuch for the KMS Server to be set to AutoSearch..... PSS: also make sure you use SLMGR -ckms to reset to Default AutoSearch.... that is why you get the Server not found on Retail.
If 'm not mistaken, this is a retail key that has been leaked on the internet, and is unlikely to stay genuine.
The same happened to me in January. I installed a game and steam and it became deactivated, but then after 3 reboots it reactivated with another date, has not happened since so I don't worry about it. Mine is all legal pro with a free WMC key, it may be something with the WMC key, just not sure.
Windows 8 checks the license at every start*, and possibly once in a while after that. Removing the Ethernet plug powers down the whole interface (can interrupt even localhost connections), it could cause the check to fail in a way MS considers bad. *you can check in the Event log
It seems unlikely that a legit and properly activated retail license would go non-valid upon disconnecting from the internet. Never did with xp and 7.
We don't talk about disconnecting from internet. We talk about pulling the plug from the LAN device. With modern NICs this powers down the LAN interface and removes the localhost (127.0.0.0/24 and ::1/128) address. Since various processes depend on inter-process communication via TCP/IP, removing localhost can have all kinds of strange side-effects. Note I haven't checked Windows 8, yet, but in the past I had to install the MS loopback device on more than one occasion to get uninterrupted service.
I have xp and 7 machines tied to lab instruments for many years, with no ethernet or lan connection, all cables unplugged and no contact with any network, and no problems losing genuine status.
This was the situation : On November 2012, I activated Win Pro for 180 days via xxxxx Server, then I add WMC with the Promo key envoy to my E-Mail ( not the same key from Pro ) I used ATM to create the backup. For a system crash , I had to reformat and I didn't find the backup previously had done, so I activate it via phone and at that time I did a " new" backup and a System Image on one partition. Last week, with that problem, I found the First backup on my BB SD, but that one Deactivate without Internet/Ethernet signal connection, the second ("new") backup never turn Deactivated. The system searching for the Server? Don't found/recognize the modem? The partition ?( the system "feel" a "New Hardware HDD" instead the Partition) Current Situation : I use another Key, activated via phone yesterday and a third ATM Backup. What y'all think Buddies? Wrong or right ? TIA
Different edition&channel of windows have different tolerance level to hardware change windows to go for example is very hard to deactivate by hardware change since the first method is activated online it constantly trys to validate itself, and being unable to reach home it deactivates itself but will get activated once it connects to home [ MS ],while the second method is activated by phone hence it doesn't try to reach home as it activation type is phone
Same issue here! Getting the same issue on my Win8 with Media Center PC with the FREE LEGIT Media Center key.
Did you first install Pro, using a legit key for Pro, then do the WMC upgrade? Or some sort of hack along the way?
