Hi guys,i have dell inspiron 1520 laptop that came with vista home premium (oem) installed. I just checked my bios with slic_toolkit 3.2 and it says i have slic 2.0 in my bios,so my question is what is the best way to install windows 7 home premium x32 and make it genuine so i can activate os and receive updates? Is there any other method, perhaps better, beside using programs like windows loader? Do i have to find windows 7 dell dvd or regular windows 7 (not oem) to install and which one is better option? Thanks in advance.
If you do not want to use Daz loader then only other option is to request a bios mod. You can easily make up windows 7 OEM:SLP dvd.
Thank you urie for your fast reply. I found a bios mod Dell-Inspiron-1520-Modified-BIOS-A09-to-SLIC-2-1 (i cant post a link since i dont have enough posts) i hope it is ok Can yout tell me is this method (bios mod) in any way better or safer than using windows loader? What are the advantages and disadvantages between this two methods? EDIT: I just flashed my bios with moded one, everything went ok so slic toolkit now reports i have slic 2.1. But one thing confuses me,the guy on the forum where i downloaded mod bios asked for bios to install windows 7 ultimate x64, so can i now install any edition of windows 7 (home premium,ultimate..),x32 or x64 or just win7 ultimate x64? and what should i do next? if i understand correct i now have to find windows 7 dell dvd or to make one?
Thank you very much,im now downloading win7 media refresh iso from the link you gave me,and also from the other link win7 multibrand oem activation. If i understand correct i have to unpack downloaded win7 iso, place $oem$ folder from other download in appropriate place, repack it in new iso and burn it on dvd,and i will have win7 dell dvd that will be activated when i install?
@ LatinMcG, ei.cfg removal tool does the the job but I was thinking deri3891 needs to edit the ISO file anyway to add $OEM$ folder Didn't really want do get to deep to much maybe for long time forum member but first bios mod glad that went ok Then I mentioned WinAIO-Maker-Professional-The-All-in-One-Windows-Setup-Solution I was thinking If deri3891, didn't have say UltraISO then WinAIO-Maker-Professional can load in ISO file or unpacked windows 7 folder and remake ISO file after $OEM$ folder was added. But I think deri3891, has read enough and will work things out OK
I already flashed my bios with another slic and everything works fine for now,but i will download your slic also just to have it in case anything goes wrong. I also made win7 dvd, removed ei.cfg, added $oem$ so now i have multi-edition win7 dvd ,i installed it and it works perfectly with all oem informations in computer properties and activated. Thank you very much @urie @LatinMcG for your help
Great, that's good news now if you like you can download x64 or x86 I don't know what version you downloaded @ I take it it was x86 and use WinAIO-Maker-Professional-The-All-in-One-Windows-Setup-Solution and have an AIO DVD
deri3891, I know its been 2 years since you find the SLI BIOS, but do you know where you found it. Ive searched for 2 hours and still not found the one you mentioned above called: Dell-Inspiron-1520-Modified-BIOS-A09-to-SLIC-2-1 Thanks for any help. I will keep looking too.
Try page 1, about halfway down is a link to Mediafire for the A09 SLIC 2.1 BIOS by LatinMcG. It was active a couple of weeks ago and I have the file on my PC. Just a reminder it's good practice to flash with the original A09 BIOS from Dell to check for any problems then flash with the SLIC BIOS. Not tried it as the friend got an Inspiron 1525 instead Enjoy
Not enough posts to paste the complete link so you have to add the www and slashes mediafire dot com download 3kzsecrs11dtb61 1520_A09_SLIC.EXE
