    Hello all,
I'm addressing you to fix a problem of bios of my notebook model Dell Inspiron 6400

After several attempts to update the bios modded by Buzykid and Shakeyplace, I'm stuck, with the same bios with NO SLIC. Some initial discutions about my problem can be found here, here, here and here.
Now all I want is to try by myself to change this BIOS, but I would like to guide me well, tell me what tool I must use and what steps should be do for modding.
    Thx all, who helping me!!

Well, I really like to know how you did it. I'm having the same laptop, and want to get slic 2.1 in my bios.

    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks very much.

Which .exe I use? MM061MOD.exe? or MM061A17.exe (included in the .rar file)?

    Or the both the same?

    Thanks again.

    either
MM061MOD.exe is the rebuilt flasher, just execute that in windows or dos,
    or
the zip file has the original MM061A17.exe, with the modded hdr file and a bat file that can only be used in dos, that was our original flash method. mm017a17.exe is not itself modded

if your laptop was not originally purchased without windows (xp or vista) then you will also have to put it in manufacturing mode to reveal the slic to windows..

    then this applies as well;
with a "n" series Dell PC you have to put the bios into manufacturing mode
here is some tools that I have collected, a few cd images as well as a couple Dos programs...
    DELL SERVICE TOOLS

Dellbiosreset.iso works on this model, burn the disk, change the service tag (even use your original, as long as you go through the motions), reboot, done

Thanks again. I'll give it a try.

My laptop came with Vista Business loaded. If I just run the MM061MOD.exe inside vista, everything will be ok. Right?

By the way, the 2nd url is not working.

should be, the mod has been tested many times, including on my own laptop.. I was using Vista before and I don't think I had to run as administrator in Vista (only logged in on an admin account) but last time I flashed in Win7 I had to right click and run as admin... maybe the memory is going.... lol

Thank you very much. I made it last night. Now the BIOS of my 6400 has SLIC 2.1 in it.

After flash the bios (inside the vista), the system boots up but holds at the bios screen for a while. I thought the motherboard was toasted. After reboot several times, the system eventually boots up, and everything is ok.

    Thanks again.

After any bios flash the motherboard will be expected to boot slowly, it has to go through the entire boot process and cannot skip any self tests, be patient and it will boot faster next time..

Hi Shakeyplace! Thank you very much for this mod. I just installed it on my daughter's dell e1505 and it worked. I have a question if you don't mind. The laptop had a valid xp oem license prior to flashing the bios. I removed the original hard drive and installed a new larger capacity drive and then installed win7. I then flashed the bios with your modded one and inserted the cert and slp. Now the question, if in the future, I replace the hard drive with the old one that has the original oem Win XP, would there be problems with its old activation? Thanks again.

This might be a noobish question, but if my RSDT/PubKey/Marker fields in Slic Toolkit say "DELL M07" instead of "DELL M09" like in these screen shots, will this mod still work for me?

It's a Dell E1505 and the BIOS version is A17. The only thing different from the screenshots here is that DELL M07 part. The SLIC Dump line also reads "DELLM07_V2.0" instead of 09. Will this be a problem? Thanks in advance for any info on this.

Hi equazcion. That will get updated when you flash the bios. The screenshots you see here are of a bios after it is flashed.

Just wanted to share that skakeys "MM061MOD.exe" worked for upgrading my e1505 Inspiron to slic 2.1. I tried the "6400-e1505.zip" and that did not upgrade my slic to 2.1.

This is using the above program in Windows 7 Home Premuim and the system has only just been rebooted.

    Any ideas?

    --EDIT--
Nevermind, anyone getting this error message, it has something to do with BIOS flash details being added to the registry settings.

Use the following to fix it -

MM061A17MOD from the original version, what are the differences?
