I'll try it. It's kinda hard to get the BIOS version when it doesn't even get to the BIOS post sreen. Any suggested software that can get me past the startup-up password? If I can get the machine to get to boot from external media; I fell I can get it licked.

    Just a thought...
I tried once to reset everything on an Inspiron 6400, try this. Do a bios recovery!, I believe you need to extract the *.hdr file, rename it 1545A14.HDR (not positive about the exact name it is supposed to be) and put it on a fat formatted usb stick - no need to make it bootable. unplug the laptop, remove the battery. put the usb stick in, press the end key, then the power key. then plug it in. (I think from memory that is the sequence, if you want to try this I can confirm all this) The power light should flash red, release the end key as soon as it does, wait a few minutes, it will search for usb sticks, search for the file, read the file, flash and just to be certain it recovers it will reset every stored setting including passwords.

BEA14.HDR should be the filename BE?à.0BIN... HDR

    my inspiron 1520 is CORA09.HDR = COR?à.0BIN... HDR

sometimes power button is needed if bios not corrupt. depends on model.

1545A14.HDR no O i believe or maybe that takes place of _ .. but dont forget the . before HDR that counts also
