I've successfully modded the Latitude D520 A08 BIOS with an updated vBIOS. The stock Intel vBIOS ver 1343 has been replaced with Intel vBIOS ver 1585. The mod also contains a SLIC 2.1. Flashed from DOS, and everything went OK. The BIOS setup now reports vBIOS version 1585, and I seem to have another video power save feature available in the intel driver control utility. Tested with Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64bit version). A SLIC 2.1 compatible Dell certificate is included with the BIOS update. (due to forum restrictions, the download links below need to be edited manually) The Intel vBIOS ver 1585 that I used is found in the driver package here: http:<slash><slash>downloadcenter<dot>intel<dot>com<slash>Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18232&lang=eng The vBIOS module is "cal_1585.dat" within the file vbios_945gm.zip. The D520 BIOS flash mod with vBIOS ver 1585 and SLIC 2.1 is here: Dell_Latitude_D520_A08_SLIC_2.1_vBIOS_1585.zip https:<slash><slash>www<dot>box<dot>com<slash>s<slash>myk07xvb3j04yhqqdydl
No video after flash! Flashed this bios and now when I turn on laptop I get no video at all. Good job there buddy.
I tested the 1585 vBIOS update on a D520 with 14.1" display and 1024x768 native resolution. The D520 also came with options of a 15" display (1024x768 resolution) and 15" display (1400×1050 resolution). I did not test the 1585 vBIOS on the models with a 15" display. Possibly the update is not compatible with the 15" display models.
Hi oceanvoid, Can I ask what steps/ a how to you used for modifying the dell bios? I plan to check and insert intel orom for AHCI on D620. A basic guide would help me get started
