    In a nutshell,

    Dell Inspirion 710M

Updating bios from A06 to A07 via floppy method SAYS it completes successfully but upon reboot nothing. CPU fan spins up constant, the CDROM sounds like its searching for somthing but no display.

I read methods of doing crisis recovery but in order for that i need to .rom/.wph files and hdr files from the executable..

i downloaded both floppy and windows veersion with no luck yet.
    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/710m_a07_win.exe
    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/BR120451.exe

    windows version extracts to :
    -A07.exe
    -flash.sys
    -ABVXD.VXD

    floppy version extracts to
    -710m_a07.exe

i tried using the switches /writeromfile, /writehdrfile and /writehexfile on the floppy EXE from dos but it does not work, the program loads gives error (from another machine) i can tell its using Pheonix Phlash16 1.6.0.2

I tried the same switches on the A07.exe in command prompt with no results.

I tried universal extractor, 7zip and winrar to try and get something from those EXE files... get nothing but err.

Can anyone help me extract the bios from Dells exe's?

    Matt

I found a copy of A00 for 700m that has rom files.

i tried the instructions on the bios recovery thread using USB stick with no luck

going to try to find a USB floppy and see how that goes..

hopefully i get a solution so i can post it.

not feeling to optimistic about this one though...

Here's the extracted Dell Inspiron 710m A07 WPH file from the floppy exe...let us know if it helps.

Note: For recovery, not sure if the Dell HDR Recovery method will work or not. Try that first, then try the old Phoenix Crisis Recovery second.

    Thank you so much!

Im going to try this over weekend.

As far as A00 bios, i was unsuccessfull at recovering using USB thumb drive. Never tried with USB floppy as i was doubtfull of even having compatible bios version.

I am going to try this one with thumb drive and see how that goes, if no luck then im going to barrow a USB Floppy drive and try the recovery. is time consuming having to recreate the entire boot disk just to change out phlash versions... oh well what have i got to looose!

    i will post my results.

Link updated in my post above. It's actually the WPH file that you can open with the PhoenixTool. If you want the ROM file that you can burn with an EEPROM programmer, then just cut the first 512kB from the WPH file.
