Just wondered why this activated without any bios mod, loader, etc.

My wife had purchased a new Dell notebook with Vista Pro-32 installed but later went back for a different model. During the time between we opted for the qualifying Win 7 upgrade from Dell and was sent a Dell Win 7-32 upgrade disk. Her new pick of notebook had Win 7 installed and I didn't think about the other disk we received later form Dell till the other day when I lost my drive on our HP XP desktop.

The original HP XP recovery disks I made were at SP1 and I just wanted to see if the Dell disk would work. I replaced the drive and installed 7 and entered the Dell key from the jacket and it activated, then went to Microsoft to get genuine to verify and all is fine.

OK, I understand now you put it that way.

Yes you are correct about the OEM Key.

    Thanks
