Thanks.
You really should read the subscription definitions for both so you know all the details but I suspect this fact of Technet subscription "Product keys, however, expire after the duration of the subscriptions and require renewal for continued usage." may sway your decision towards the MSDN ISO..
That's the Key's bought directly from Technet which will expire after the subscription period expires. However the Technet ISO could still be used with normal legit keys. One of my German friends had exactly that problem while using Technet Keys in his companies computers. One year after the Subscription has expired, the software was getting unactivated and using normal key's that software started to work normally activated again. It was for Vista and Office 2007 with which he work till today (don't understand why he never updated to 7 or now 8!).
Hi pisthai, do you know if a Product Key ($14) from the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant would would with either the Technet or MSDN ISOs to install legit Windows 8 on a new hard drive (one that doesn't have a previous install of a version of Windows on)? I understand I can write the installation files to DVD/USB and install by booting from the BIOS and installing OVER my previous Windows 7 installation. However, I'd like to put my new Windows 8 installation on a new hard drive. One that has never had an installation of Windows on it. Totally blank. I don't think I can use the upgrade edition installation to do this, I have my legitimate product key. What do I need? Would using the product key with an MSDN ISO or RTM ISO work?
I've done that many times already and for me it were working ALL times. Only things is that you have to use an RTM ISO either on DVD or USB/PD! If you use the Upgrade ISO it wouldn't work! You could see the difference directly: using Upgrade ISO will ask on beginning of installation for the Product Key using RTM it will ask at end of installation for the Product Key The later is the one you could use to do directly a clean install also to an new HDD without the need to to have a prior OS installed.
Thank you! Just so I'm 100% certain I know what I'm doing, would this image file be suitable? MICROSOFT Windows 8 RTM Final PROFESSIONAL x64 English DVD ISO BUILD: 6.2.9200.16384.WIN8_RTM.120725-1247 FILE: Windows_8_Pro_EN-US_x64.ISO SIZE: 3,581,853,696 byte CRC32: 5D7BB5F4 MD5: 7A10316A79A543F2BF4953A4332B4323 SHA-1: E63C1D3733532ABC7AB28F3D61526E361E80271A That's the one I want to use, right?
I don't know that one, it's not an original MS ISO! First, the name of the ISO, Microsoft original say's RTM only, NOT Professional! Second, the build no.! Check with the Original Windows 8 Repository from Stickies and in the first post No. 1 & 3 from the list! And compare the Checksum!
Windows 8 RTM English, 64-bit (x64) Size: 3.33 GB SHA-1: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4 Download: en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso That one, right? The one I mentioned above is from WZT and is referred to in the sticky in the Windows 8 forum called Windows 8 ISO guide MyDigitalLife For All Leak (I can't post the link as I don't have 20 posts). Any idea what the difference is with this image?
