If you install Chrome on Windows 8 and haven't set it as the default browser it works just fine.

But if you set it as your default browser the Chrome shortcut in the start menu will open a Metro app.

Here's how to disable the metro version.

Pin to taskbar and it will open to the desktop instead

And what if I want to have it on the Start Screen as a shortcut to the Desktop? This is really annoying... especially because apparently the Chrome version doesn't even share the profile as the desktop version.

I had a real hard time with this, but I pretty much got rid of anything mentioning Google Chrome in both the main and own Startmenu folders, and then left a custom shortcut to chrome.exe on the main startmenu, and then pinned it to start.

i just created a chrome new shortcut in the desktop and clicked "place to start menu". Then it will always start in desktop mode.

    Remove the *
Use that option to switch between metro and desktop mode chrome.

    EDIT:
Sorry for posting here, I didn't notice how old this thread was

Yeah, in the past there was no such setting.

As an alternative; if you disable UAC, Chrome automatically starts in Desktop-mode. Downside may be is that no Metro apps (aside from Immersive CP and maybe Store) work.
