I wouldn't consider the Skylake 6700K cpu old tech just yet. Although the Kabylake cpu is the newest, it's not much improvement over a Skylake and you do not need to do anything special to run Windows 7 on it. Unless you consider running Intel's optane but right now it's not quite ready for the masses

Hello Tiger-1 , Thank you for the wishes :) , it's a relief being able to use win7 a few more years too.

Hi Joe C, I thought the 6700K has been out since 2015 or there abouts, I am not on internet a lot and need to do more in depth search when time is available. I did see that thread here about Kabylake with win7 issues though.
I was going to get an i5K chip but for $80 more got i7. The i5 6600K was under $200 but I got this one instead. Hopefully AMD will force, in a competitive way , intel to lower prices in the near future.

yes, the Skylake cpu came out in Q3 15' and it was the was the newest chip until the Kabylake came out in Q1 17', so in Q4 16 the Skylake was still the newest chip

Despite all that the power efficiency of Kaby Lake over Skylake is recommendable.

Using the Kabylake you'll get about 7% better performance, but it'll cost you extra for that Z270 board compared for an "older" Z170 board. And with the Z170 you'll miss out on the option to get an Optane drive if they ever make one at an affordable price per gb
