Hi all, Does anyone know of a good "set it and forget it" PXE server app for Windows? Something that can support multiple disk images for different operating systems and the ability to choose one at boot, kind of like you can with Ventoy. I have an old computer that I can use as the PXE server. I have about 20 installs to do and would like to do them over the network if possible. TIA
@ciscokid Do you think it's a good idea to convert this thread as the one-stop discussion thread for iVentoy?
Sadly, I downloaded it but somehow can't get it to work. It's supposed to load a local website to turn the PXE server on but does not get there. When I manually type the local address given on the website after running the exe, it says no such address. Edit: According to the docs on the website, when you run the exe, it's supposed to automatically run the local website of the PXE server, unfortunately it does nothing. I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. Need to do those installs asap so I'll do them one at a time with a USB stick I guess.
Quick update: the software was just updated to version 1.0.0.7, it is now working on my system. Just a hint, if you can't get it to work, you'll need to install the latest Visual C+ runtime on your system, it should then work as expected. Thanks!
2023/07/10 --- 1.0.10 release Fix the blank web page bug. Add screen resolution boot menu. Fix the bug that can not select 1366x768 resolution on the page. Bugfix, comments and suggestions are welcome.
I gave iVentoy v1.0.10 a try today. When I ran the iVentoy_64.exe nothing happened. Looking at the event log showed iVentoy_64.exe faulting. You need to have updated VC++ runtimes for it to run. Could not get the iVentoy PXE service to start on my SVR 2016 box which is configured to DHCP. Tried setting iVentoy from internal to external dhcp - did not work. Also tried disabling dhcp and using iVentoy internal dhcp - PXE would not start. Always got "DHCP port occupied" no matter what I did. Others had this issue posted in the ventoy forum but none of the longpanda suggestions worked for me. I then tried it on a notebook running win11 pro. Had to give the nic an ip address (192.168.0.1). Memtest 10.5 Pro ISO worked. WinPE ISO would load but the display became garbled. After setting the resolution from the default 1024x768 to 1920x1080 WinPE worked. This could be an issue if your using many different devices/configurations. Note: There's a crack & license generator floating around that enables Pro. If you try this then iVentoy appears fine but it knows it's been hacked. You'll find that WinPE will load then reboot. Looks very good. Way better than the tiny pxe (and others) that I played with years ago. Not too sure if I'll use it as my multi-boot keys do everything I need. Nearly everything I setup needs a bios/uefi/ec/dmi/fw update which is on my USB key anyway...
2023/07/14 --- 1.0.11 release Fix the bug that some kylin OS can not boot. Since 1.0.11 release, iVentoy Free edition and Pro edition are provided separately. Only Free edition can be downloaded from the website. Pro edition will only be provided to the paid users. This change has no effect on Free edition users, and the difference between the Free edition and the Pro edition remains the same as before. Bugfix, comments and suggestions are welcome.
2023/08/13 --- 1.0.18 release Fix a bug about CentOS boot failure (introduced since 1.0.15) Fix a bug that iVentoy can not start if the machine has only 1 cpu core. Bugfix, comments and suggestions are welcome.
