    Hello,

    TL;DR: My MSE stopped updating. Is it only me or does anyone else currently have this problem?

    I have a Windows 7 x64 here whose Microsoft Security Essentials (ohhh the good warm feeling of snake oil...) has not updated since Version 1.423.150.0 (2/27/2025).
    Even manually it only leads to Event ID 2001 in the event log.

    I then manually downloaded the "mpam-d.exe" which successfully updated MSE to the current 1.423.186.0.
    To be on the safe side (-d means delta) I then also run the "mpam-fe.exe".

    In all these years I had never the case that MSE stopped updating itself.
    I hope Microsoft is not going to abandon MSE/Windows 7 users "yet"... :p

    Thanks and greetings,
    Martin

    About what is tell? That tls always was by default turned on. Me only turn off 1.0 and 1.1 and all ssl for be active only 1.2 for more protection. And any problems.

    MSE 4.10.209.0 updates on its own in all my Windows 7 PC's.
    WU is set to check for updates.
    IE11 is set to use TLS 1.0 and 1.1 and 1.2.
    The current definition version for MSE is 1.423.195.0.

    Thank you all for the answers!

    They are active.
    But this really seems to be the problem, because when the update is manually initiated, Schannel errors appear in the event log:
    40 = SSL3_ALERT_HANDSHAKE_FAILURE
    70 = TLS1_ALERT_PROTOCOL_VERSION

    Yes and if WU is deactivated, as in my case, it updates itself.

    That's the difference - I have WU off.
    Anyone else who lets MSE update itself and has problems?

    Thanks and regards,
    Martin

    //edit:
    According to the WindowsUpdate.log, the download doesn't seem (yet) to be the problem, but it can't find any updates (Updates found = 0).
    I've now had WU search manually, but it only found KB890830 (MSRT), installed it successfully.
    No MSE definition updates. :(

    Does Server 2008 R2 still receive certificate updates?

    I just checked on Windows 8.1 and haven't received any Certificate Updates either since December 2024 !

    Edit : I also checked on Server 2012 R2 and there it's still getting Certificate Updates

    So they seem to distinguish between Client and Server for these certificates

    My MSE update stopped at 1.423.125.0 (26/02/2025) which is also the latest update on the Microsoft Update Catalog page. As mentioned, the only way to update it was by downloading the mpam-fe.exe file

    Hi.

    Seems like I have not been able to get updates for "Microsoft Security Essentials" since February 26th.

    That last version I have is 1.423.125.0.

    Have MS stopped releasing definition updates for "Microsoft Security Essentials"?

    Hope the question isn't off topic. My Win7 64bit have been fully updated with February patches.
