Hi all, I'm hoping for some assistance please. I have a PC running Windows 10 home edition. There was a windows update recently and windows media centre stopped working. I have attempted the following without success. * Opened up Cmd is a command prompt as an administrator, ran the uninstall command. The Windows media center was still there * attempted to run the blue and green installer - was saying that windows media centre is still there. * Attempted to download 8.8.5 and install it, it stated that the windows media centre was already installed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Which version of installer did you use last time you installed? Can you check to see if \windows\ehome actually exists?
The C:\Windows\ehome folder does exist. Hi I believe that I installed the 8.8.4 version last time. When I run the uninstaller I get the following from the 8.8.4 uninstaller - Deleting schedule tasks... Uninstalling assemblies... Deleting services... Removing registry settings... Deleting files... Done. A reboot is recommended before trying to install the pack again. Press any key to exit.
Hi, It seems as though I've managed to resolve it. I have Comodo antivirus installed which proceeded to run the installer and uninstaller in a sandbox. I've since managed to uninstall version 8.8.4 and install 8.8.5. I'm running a TV scan as we speak for mums TV card. It seems to be detecting TV channels. Thank you.
I just installed the upgrade to 21H2 from 20H2 on a PC using the version through insider channel and it looks like it will kill WMC to me - certainly doesn't look like a trivial upgrade.
"I just installed the upgrade to 21H2 from 20H2" Do you really mean 21H2? I know that 21H1 is out for final testing but haven't seem any mentions yet of 21H2. 21H1 has been billed as minor. I hope we don't lose WMC
Oh my poor brain. It is 21337.1010 experience pack 321.5601.0.3 I am on now. WMC 8.8.5 is working but I had to install it as it wasn't installed before I upgraded. It didn't seem like a minor upgrade as it took three hours to install. Because of that, I am reluctant to roll back and try doing it again to see if it blats WMC.

Just did an upgrade on a system with a working installation of WMC 8.8.5 on 20H2 to 21H1. After that, MSSQLite, the WMC services and most of the WMC registry entries were missing so WMC obviously wouldn't work. I removed and reinstalled WMC and it worked but when I restored my backup of the WMC settings, the database got rebuilt. exactly the same as happened when I've gone from 1909 or 2004 to 20H1 or 20H2.
any ideas on what the problem might be, is there any point in figuring it out now, or wait closer to release date in case things change?
I was wondering if the problem I had with going from 20H2 to 21H1 was because I upgraded a UK English system using a US English ISO created from UUPs. Unfortunately, having exactly the same thing with going from 1909-20H1 and again going from 20H1 to 20H2 via Windows Update, I'm beginning to think otherwise. At the very least, it means you lose the recording history and it is a real PITA on my PC with DVB-S2 tuners because it means starting virtually from scratch every time.
