Basically while you are downloading a file or files your bittorent client program uploads pieces of the files you are downloading. Nothing to worry about there. In any peer to peer environment there are risks. Protect yourself with good firewall and anti-virus. Be carefull where you download from. The main risk in my opinion is from malware and viruses hidden in downloads especially in keygens. I speak from experience, i once ended up with with a keylogger and had to completely wipe my hard drive ........ lost all data. Just be wise. :D :)

Just saying it froze won't help much. Did you check the event logs for any errors? Did you change anything on pc recently, software maybe?
Antivirus, firewall and antispyware memory drivers can cause freeze, so can other drivers like video audio, network etc. Does it freeze up completely mouse and all, if that's the case check drivers especially video. Otherwise check for hard drive failing that will freeze a pc.

Why not just try another torrent client see if you still have problem.

I use uTorrent in combination with Avira, no probs at all.

Could you check event viewer what it says about the freeze ?
Cause it may well be something else then BitComet or Avast causing this...

Wasn't sure what section to post this in, so move it at your discretion.

I am using Windows 7 with uTorrent.

Scenario: Using uTorrent over a vpn and the vpn disconnects. My ip address is now exposed to who ever.

Are there any vpn client specific software that allows a bittorrent application to terminate as soon as the vpn is disconnected? Furthermore, are there any other applications or workarounds that I could use?

I am using NIS 2010 for antivirus and firewall, and I am not sure there is a way to set firewall rules to an application and mac.

Any help or suggestions appreciated. Thanks
