I was wondering if anyone knows how Windows 10 detects eligibility for the ESU. Is the license stored on the physical PC or is it more like a digital license and requires being connected to the internet? Is a one time connection to the internet enough to activate the ESU at a later time? I'm asking in relation to how you would update an offline PC. If this has been touched on please point me to the thread. Microsoft has a wonky way of enrolling your PC in the ESU as the only option seems to be through Windows Update, ie no Microsoft account or other online enrollment process. Thanks in advance
At least the commercial ESU is stored on your machine, as normal additional licenses. The latest MAS can do it offline for Windows 10 (only Windows 11 26100 and higher require an online connection).
In all of my tests, until now, the feature enables automatically on the base Home and Pro SKUs. It can take a couple of hours, but it always shows up in the WU page. Not for ProWS though. Weird.
That's where mine was. I had to drill down a bit to setup being able to get past requiring the 'Free' Windows Backup requirement.
Anyone wondering about having a local account, well this AM I signed up to "Add Device" w/ a local account. I did have to enter my MS credentials before having the ESU turned on. This is a Win10 x86 OS that I just updated this AM.
Yeah, now you have hybird account (check Settings > Accounts > Your info) + if your device were enrolled using other ms account or Consumer_ESU_Enrollment.ps1, then any different ms account you use to enroll again will say the same message above, even if the ms account itself never enrolled previously
....is there any Patch for the Windows 10 ESU Program yet? just came looking here but didn’t find anything. So a patch similar as the one for Windows 7 by abodi....
