Those of us who installed from the MSDN/MVS ISO don't need to do anything, right?

The ISO file (made by esd file) fit DVD5.

Since the created ISOs contain install.esd, they always fitted DVD5.

He did. It's faster with ESDs, because the converter doesn't have to compress the files, because they are already compressed.

That's up to you but it fits DVD5 easily.

This is just window-dressing. Their internal bug database is crammed full.

This is strange. The update pause expired on my problematic notebook which stopped working after installing any CU over .1 (either manually with DISM or through WU) or upgraded with an installer bearing any integrated CU (UUP->ISO). After WU ran forcefully with CU .264 something was different this time: login still failed but I was dropped into a temporary account. While there, I decided to try installing the official .264 ISO and somehow after the upgrade everything works fine, I can now log in to my old account normally (well, except I lost the PIN method and I couldn't restore it at first attempt, I will try it later but other than that everything looks fine).

Because of problems like that I couldn't explain, I concluded that MS was using some intermediate steps when building their ISO which the scripts cannot duplicate. For all deployments I stick to MSDN/TB releases, but occasionally I will update WinRE.wim to follow MS own recommendations.
