    Seriously, don't install Win11 26100.1 aka 24H2 "RTM"...

I just used it to upgrade 2 laptops and 1 Desktop from latest official 23H2 (using an UUPdump to ISO conversion, no Insider enrollment) and...it was a bad idea:

UI Animations and graphics performance in general was abysmal on all 3 (lag/stutters everywhere, especially on the 2 laptops including one with a 13th gen Intel i9 13905H + NVIDIA 4060 + 32GB RAM 6400 Mhz + m2 SSD...)

Random BSODs for no clear reason

CPU/GPU temps were higher (yeah, even after the initial setup when they settled in)

Phone Link app was corrupted and there was no way to repair or reinstall it

Other Store apps stopped receiving updates

When closing the lid of the most powerful laptop of the 2 (see above) it started to overheat almost to a boiling point with the fans not working at all. I luckily noticed it in time to force shut it down

Battery life was halved on both laptops

Luckily I had recent Macrium Reflect Free system images of 23H2 as a backup which I successfully restored and all 3 went back to normal without a single issue.

If 26100.1 was actually chosen as 24H2 RTM, well, may god help us all in the next months...

perhaps 26100. * is RTM, but 26100.1 is not. 26100.1 is still an insider build and requires flightsigning to upgrade from previous RTM builds.

Fixed this issue by uninstalling Microsoft Edge completely with a third party uninstaller then using a regedit to make sure microsoft edge doesn't reinstall & then replaced the start menu with startallback.

Since then haven't had a single issue microsoft edge & the start menu seem to be causing heating issues in 24h2 for some odd reason.

Everything else I haven't ran into issues with, so really can't comment there.

    Don't spread FUD, please.

Start All Back works perfectly in any build I tried, in the worst case scenario of a breaking update, SAB will be updated in matter of a day or so, (and it temporary disable itself).

    no it doesn't.

startallback was not compliant with all private export changes between 23h2 and 24h2, there can and will be issues depending on the combination of settings you use prior to a 24h2 compatible update.

It has been implicated in shell explorer process not being able to start on 24h2.

An this what's supposed to mean?

Obviously everything isn't compatible until it is.

Like I said SAB is updated usually in a day, or even in few hours. Period.

W/O SAB the ugly, screwed Win11 UI is a 100% probability

With SAB there are 99% of probabilities to not face the stock UI in any moment.

What a sane minded person would do?

Guys, how do I download just the update of 24h2 and upgrade my 23h2 to that? I don't want to download an entire ISO just to upgrade. I upgraded from 22h2 to 23h2 just by downloading and installing the update package

    that's because 22h2=23h2
for 24h2 you need full build upgrade, so download ISO or use WU on the Dev channel

That's too bad. I have so much stuff installed on this laptop and its a hassle to set it up again after the new windows install. I think I need to wait a bit more as there might be some sort of upgrade package available through windows updates

I am just not fan of those. They always mess something up and I end up resetting OS or force to clean install. Kinda like Android updates which are clunky and after hard reset, it just magically works without any bugs. On the other hand, the upgrade packages are like regular updates and work out ok.

There will never be a enablement package for 24H2, as it's a completely new build and so requires either a ISO for clean install or upgrading or to download UUP upgrade files through WU enrolled in the Dev Channel.

    @xeeo97

In place upgrades work reasonably well since the dos 1.1 and pretty well since the days of vista.
Android is a different thing, and whatever with a bit of experience most of the problems can be avoided or solved easily even there.

TBH 26100.268 has been f****ng rock solid. I just don't know what secret sauce they applied to spit out such a stable build compared to nightmarish previous Canary builds.

No stutters, slowdowns here. All games also work flawlessly.
