I have problems using Remote Destop Client at 24H2. It appears MS has broken or have issues with old Server 2008 terminal server machines. If I connect to a recent machine using remote desktop all works well. I discovered MS update remote desktop client about May 2024. Updated version is v2. I got uninstall remote desktop client, but I have not found previous version to install and get if it works. Any idea about where I can get it? Thanks in advance
I don't use Windows 10 or Server 2016, neither have any older gen CPU in most of my system(s), as you said you already tested this so asked, what's your system config & the performance gain you noticed

I've also noticed the same thing after upgrading to 24H2 a few months ago. The artifacts are really bad in Office programs if installed on the 2008R2 terminal server. The 2008R2 Terminal server is an old test machine so I haven't put much effort into fixing it, but have you tried copying mstsc.exe (and the related language file) from 23H2 (or earlier where it works) and see if that fixes the issue?
I tried to copy MTSC.exe from 23H2, but it does not work, because a DLL error. There are more files involved. I am tried to get 23H2 complete version to try to install, but I have not found it. I only get v2 version, witch is same is already installed. If I use remote desktop client from MS store, it works well, without artifacts, but this client is very limited. It not maps printers, and I need to print.
I just tested and it seems to work. You need to copy these files: C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe C:\Windows\System32\mstscax.dll C:\Windows\System32\en-US\mstsc.exe.mui C:\Windows\System32\en-US\mstscax.dll.mui I copied them its own folder (for example, C:\RDP), then created a shortcut to mstsc.exe. NOTE: you must keep the "en-US" subfolder structure intact! Give it a shot and see how it goes.
It works! I copied 23H2 files to another folder, but when I start mstsc.exe the upper bar does not show, so I replaced files into original folder. I used iobit unlocker utility to rename original files and copied 23H2 files. I notice it is not necesary to replace files inside en-US folder (es-ES folder in my machine, because windows is in spanish language). The only issue is upper bar is bigger then 23H2 and 24H2, but this is not a problem. Thanks a lot for the solution. Regards Miguel
