I installed Windows on my first 12th gen system last week and there were a LOT of drivers that were not included.

I have no idea how the relationship between Intel and Microsoft works when it comes to integrating drivers into a new OS build but it certainly doesn't seem to be very good.

I suspect that since the DIY market is so small that they don't really bother with anything other than critical drivers assuming that we can just figure it out on our own.

hey guys, the drivers installed by windows generally are outdated and generic, ALWAYS is better download the drivers for the exact model... (example motherboard site)

Yes this is normal behavior. Windows 10/11 don't include i225V drivers.

Obviously but we are talking about the stuff that isn't there at all. When it comes to something like network drivers being missing, it kind of puts a damper on downloading the correct drivers. Not everyone has multiple PCs.

Also bear in mind that 22623 is actually just 22621 with an EP to amend it to 22623, so the drivers included should be identical.

Did the motherboard not come with a driver disk?

I use the windows 10 drivers found at:
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository, create a folder on the desktop and copy the contents C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository into it and you will have a backup of them in the format Microsoft uses to save this folder since from it you can restore or update the drivers

You have to make sure you are using v2.1.1.14. These are the only drivers that are specifically for Windows 11, all others are for previous versions of Windows. As far as I know, there are no MS supplied drivers.

Intel has been very slow at updating and publishing drivers for this chip.

Not everyone buys new or keeps those. I have multiple PCs so has literally nothing with me, I am simply commenting on how little effort there seems to be between Intel and Microsoft when it comes to baseline drivers.

There was a thread a bout this on Intel's support forum. Intel DAS was installing the Windows 11 drivers on Windows 10 systems and breaking networking ports on NUCs.

Asus Z690 ProArt has built in or Native LAN driver for Intel i225-V since 22H2.

MSI might be using a non standard or newer device ID and the default Intel driver might not be picking it up.

But I disable i225-V in bios because who cares for punny little 2.5 Gbe chip when this board includes latest heavy artillery Marvell 10Gbe AQC113C !!

Marvell driver is not included and it’s a blessing in disguise. I can do offline setup each time and no need to fiddle with Bios settings trying to turn 10Gbe ethernet on/off.
