Anyone already tried to add Store app (for M365 apps) to Server 2025?

    Server 2025 Hyper-V New Features :)

    - Windows Server vNext delivers 90% more IOPS on NVMe SSDs.

    - NVMe over Fabric (NVMe-oF) support.

    - Storage Replica 3x performance improvement.

    - Thin Provisioned storage.

    - Stretched Clustering support for Storage Spaces Direct (S2D).

    - Certificate-based VM Live migration for AD-less cluster.

    - Cluster Aware Updating enhancements to make it more resilient.

    - GPU-P support for Hyper-V including support for Live Migration.

    - NetworkATC support for Windows Server.

    - New ReFS native deduplication and compression, optimized for hot-data such as virtual machines

    tested with AS SSD

From VM - 8.3K [Server 2022 and lower should get 4K**]
    From VM noAV - 7.6K

    From Host RAMDISK - 110K
From Host VHD on RAMDISK - 13.4K

    Massive improvement :D

    OS: Server 2025 10.0.26040

GPU-P is there since 1803 / Server 2018, not sure about live migration....

Back to Server 2025 (someone must be really upset that now we have a non encrypted title :D ) , tested briefly, i had a number of unsolicited reboots that I never had in the latest builds 26010 / 25997 / 25967

Obviously the mileage may vary depending the HW, still 26040 worked w/o problems for half a day, then started with that behavior.

Build 26040 looks very promising indeed compared to build 26010 :)

Were you able to upgrade from 26040?

Tested again 26040 and 26052, both crashing after few minutes with a vague unexpected_kernel_trap using the same configuration which is rock solid using anything from Win7/2008r2 to Server 11 26010.

BTW I think I bisected the problem, to the driver made for W7 I always use, seem that using the one for Win8.1 solves the problem. (no, before you ask, obviously I don't use the useless driver for Win 10/11)

So, does Server 2025 finally add support for HWID permanent activation?
Now that the preview builds can be installed through WU, like regular Windows, and that consumer features like Microsoft Copilot started showing up on Server... I might just switch to 2k25 as my main workstation/desktop OS.

Also, the default wallpaper from build 26063.1 onwards is much nicer looking than W11 24H2's one.

Is that relevant? Anyway just activate as HyperCore or Azure Hci, and any Windows is activate permanently, offline

Sane minded people normally use Server OSes, PURPOSELY to avoid unwanted updates, and dangerous spyware like Copilot.

Yes the default wallpaper is definitely the metric that any experienced Sysadmin should use to decide the IT infrastructure. :roflmao:

Its weird for me that Microsoft is giving a fresh new default wallpaper for Windows Server, while their theoretically main product, Windows client, will be left with the same old one from 2021 (and both operating systems share the exact same codebase... go figure...).

So... as it turns out, Server 2025 is a great desktop/workstation OS.
Enabled Insider builds on the Canary Channel and Am ready to use it as my main OS now.

Uses less ram than Win11 as expected and uses much less disk space.
With Win11 I get 400GB out of 465GB free on the SSD...
    With 2k25 I get 438GB free.

The new wallpaper screams "Windows Azure" lol.

    @PolidelticusFire

On base Windows 11 show me aprox 30GB first time install OS + Device driver requirement ..

My Windows server 2022 use 40GB (OS + Drivers and few MS Apps requirement needs) .

So, what the seem mislead info Windows 11 use more than Server?? Not really, Server use little more than Windows 11 because of the server need additional requirements to able function..

I own 3 servers and 9 NAS... OK I have over 40TB of data..

Fully functional Copilot on Windows Server is very bizarre.
I suppose these consumer-y features will be disabled and/or removed by the time Server 2025 reaches RTM lol.

All my OSes VHDs takes less than 10GB, after I install the SW I need. A freshly installed 64 bit OS fits in 6/7GB or so. Just learn to deploy and use the LZX compression.

    upload_2024-2-26_21-48-15.png

Obviously 32bit ones are much smaller

    upload_2024-2-26_21-50-1.png

Is pretty obvious that Server OSes takes less RAM, and usually also less storage.

The component store of server OSes is larger than client ones, but if you compare Server againist Pro or plain enterprise, the latter use a huge amount of space because all the preinstalled Apps.

Whatever the unused features of servers can be removed with a tiny script

    Poweshell version

    Code:
    Get-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online | where { $_.State -match "Disabled" } |
    foreach { $_ = $_.FeatureName;
    DISM /Online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:$_ /Remove
    }
    or CMD

    Code:
    for /f %%a in ('dism /online /get-features /format:table ^|find "| Disabled"') do (dism /online /disable-feature:%%a /remove)

Remember also that the idiotic way Edgium is installed and updated takes 2GB of space (not including the user's profile(s)

Also in recent win11/server11 there is an additional 500MB wasted because the edge webview which was moved from program files to the system32 directory, making it hard to remove.
